Josephine Charles Foundation
The Foundation facilitates the education of underprivileged children in the Sichuan Province PRC. Emphasis is given to girls, as it is still customary for many minority communities in remote rural areas to deny girls opportunities. The Foundation aims to breaks the cycle of poverty & illiteracy through education, and empower minority communities to participate more fully in all areas of society.
In November 2006 The RICE fund donated to this foundation. A large part of the donation were used to build a new school at Hong Xing (Red Star) village, with 3 classrooms, a small library/activity room, toilets, playground, accommodation for 2 teachers. The school caters for 100 students. Part of the remaining donation were used to support severely disadvantaged children attending Lou Gu Po primary school by providing bedding, food, clothing and school books. And also used to support severely disadvantaged children at Si He primary school by providing food, clothing and school books.
