Bridges Across Borders
Bridges Across Borders is an organization that was formed to build brides between the world’s peoples – North and South, East and West, ‘haves’ and ‘have-nots’. They build bridges by raising awareness in the Global North about the pressing issues faced by the communities they serve in the Global South; by facilitating people-to-people exchanges, study tours, and volunteer programs; and by initiating and supporting creative endeavors that address the root causes of hatred and violence. BAB believes that peace, sustainable development and human rights are interdependent and interrelated and our work encompasses each of these facets.
The RICE fund over 2007 and 2008 supported BAB for the construction of a primary school building in a remote, impoverished community in Kompong Speu province, where primary school enrollment is significantly below the national average due to the lack of school buildings. Also adding a standard concrete school building with five classrooms to the current wooden structure with three classrooms (grades 1-4), Oda Primary School will be able to serve grades 5 and 6. In addition, the fund covered a teacher training and salary supplementation scheme, and the provision of school supplies to students to improve the quality of education and the motivation to learn in this community.
